When the law seriously isn't a joke.
So alot of you who visit my site & what not are teenagers (by that I mean the ages of 13-18).What do teenagers like to do?They like to have fun & go out with friends right? What else do they do?They share each others cars. They also like to skip out on wearing seatbelts.Well, I had an experience this morning, & I will never leave anywhere without my seatbelt ever again.
I woke up this morning & did my hair & make-up & everything just like usual. When my mom told me it was time to go I looked at the clock & noticed we were leaving kind of early.Ofcourse I just shrugged it off & told myself i'd have more time to talk to friends. We opened the door and I stepped into the foot & a half deep slush on my porch.I was wearing my UG's (which are like snow boots but they're the stylish ones!!!) and I made it to the car.I got in and started adjusting my hair in the mirror.I looked like crap today. Then we started driving to school.
I was frustrated because it was terrible weather & we didn't even have a delay. What kind of school doesn't even delay when the roads are so slick? So we pulled into a parking lot by the tennis courts.Well...a half parking lot. It's an area where you just pull out of the lane & park.Really that's a terrible idea because those parking spots happen to be on the side of the school with one of the busiest roads. So I jumped out of the car & waved as my dad told me "Have a good day." poor guy.He works night shifts & had just got home an hour ago.He was pretty exhausted. So my little sister climbed into the front seat & put her seatbelt on.I started walking & I turned around when I heard the tires running against snow.He was stuck again.I laughed because I thought it looked goofy. We had been stuck so many times in snow the past few days.
So my dad rammed the gas.
I knew he was a good driver.I thought it was kind of unintelligent thing to do when there's a busy street RIGHT behind you but I knew he'd hit the brakes.
Well he did.And it didn't help.
The car hit an ice patch & rolled out infront of a truck.
I dropped my bag in the snow & stared at this as it was happening.Only about seven or eight feet away. The truck scraped against the back of my car making the worst noise I have ever heard. It ripped off a little of my bumper & took off the left tail light. The front left end of the truck was totaled in a second.Another truck came behind and (I think) lightly scraped the back of the first truck, then he swerved & slid on the ice half way into the other lane & halted. All the cars behind them just stopped.
Nobody moved.Except me.
I ran back to my car faster then I have EVER ran before.I was in panic mode.I couldnt see any movement in the car & my first thought was "Oh my God my nine year old sister is in the front seat & my dad is driving." I ripped the passenger door opened & yelled "ARE YOU OKAY?!" my dad didn't answer but just shook his head.He had gone into shock. My little sister didn't cry but was pretty freaked out.I left the door ajar & ran into the road to see if the other two truck's passengers were okay.
It was the scariest moment of my life.
That's why I will never decide a seatbelt is way too uncool for me.Somebody could have seriously gotten hurt. It's not very "fun" when you realise things like that.Even without snow, it can happen.Even to me & you, it can happen. My point in typing this is not to scare anyone who reads it out of driving or being near cars.My point is to help people who laugh things off like this or say "seatbelts are dumb" to realise, it CAN happen. It can happen AND the effects can be devastating. Please, just wear your seatbelt.
